Wow! Just as we got started today, it also started to rain. Luckily we weren’t deterred and we still we able to give out a lot of hugs. The rain was short-term, the love is always for the long-term! I hope a few who participated will share a quick story or thought on today to help us all remember the beauty of getting on campus and shining the light of Christ in such a foolishly simple but loving way.
I am proud of all you disciples who got out there and showed the love of Christ. You got to experience some minor rejection, some people who burst into a smile even if they didn’t get a hug, and a lot of people who accepted the invitation. You broke down barriers and showed the love of Jesus to everybody! You did not pick and choose. No doubt many people’s lives were changed for the better, even if for a brief moment. I know mine was!

Today was awesome! I honestly did not want to do it at first because I thought it would be real awkward but I am so glad I did! So many peoples walked by with a dull face but once they got a hug they were laughing or smiling when they left. It was such a joy to be a light in someone’s day. One funny incident was a guy riding a bike past us and I jumped out in front of him and asked him if he wanted a free hug or a high five. He kind of gave me a crazy look but I got a high five out of him haha. We should definately do this again.

I didn’t get to be there for too long, but what I always enjoy is watching the students reach out. There is nothing like seeing their love for their fellow students. And I heard more than one conversation in which people were asking, “Why are you doing this?” and our RFC’s gave such great answers. Thanks for shining your light on the Ole Miss campus!

Being a part of free hugs was the highlight of my day. The first ten minutes were a little strange, no doubt, but once you get into it it’s awesome! I know at first I was just quietly standing next to the sign, but at the end I was yelling at people “FREE HUGS!!! You know you want one!” from a pretty good distance. I learned that you get a lot more hugs if you repeatedly ask, “are you sure?!” It felt good making people smile, especially after a test that had got them down. When Keegan first ran off with our sign, we were still giving hugs, but people kept asking, “well, where’s your sign?” to which we would respond, “He ran away to do a victory lap…” haha, twas a lot of fun
