Eric Dahl shared this recently and I wanted to share it with you as well.
What’s your take on this? Where do you struggle the most with priorities?
“I recently heard a talk on priorities that has stuck with me. The call to “count the cost” is so Biblical but I often find myself drifting and prefer to act only on “whatever your hand finds to do.” These adages are not exclusive Priorities where identified as where we spend time, money and what we find ourselves thinking about throughout the day. The speaker challenged me to take an inventory and list five priorities, further challenging to do it with honest and “not make a wish list, but actually list the priorities according to the criteria of time, money and thought spent.
Turns out, I give a high priority to recreation and familySomething I found useful was the idea that, we will have priorities and typically the ones we reflect on happily after a lifetime will be those that we consciously chose (something I’m still working on with at least 2/3 of a lifetime already. Speaker suggested that worth while priorities have the quality of:
1. Being Chosen
2. Give Direction
3. Give motivation – can set you on fire and fill you with energy
4. Freedom – Set you free from bad habits
5. Realistic – require a growing knowledge of who God made you to be
Just wanted to share these insights.
I’m praying, thinking about them regularly now”
