Thanks to my informant, Trace, I like what Will.i.am said recently on tour in China. “We are no different from you–we work to pay the bills and support our families.” Then he said in the magazine I read, “This is the America we represent: the one that’s part of, not apart from, the rest of the world…We should continue to be the light of the world.” Hmmm…I thought we already had a light of the world.

Well, America doesn’t need to be the light of the world. That role has been filled by Jesus! But Will.i.am does offer a healthier view of the United States…one that promotes humility and collaboration, not arrogance and domination. This will not only help Americans throughout the world, but Christians as well since the two are, for better or for worse, linked in many minds across the world.
